History

Lately in history we have been talking about the upcoming elections, the Civil War and most recently the Constitution. Today in class we had cookies and sang the Preamble to help celebrate Constitution Day. I will be mostly recapping the Civil War section. There are many things that can be accused as the reason for the causes for outbreak such as the constitutional issues which included: the 3/5 clause, the fugitive slave clause and the silent endorsement of slaves. Political reasons included: Dred Scot v. Sanford, the south being out number and tariffs.

We also touched base on the different battles by watching a black and white movie on them. Fort Sumpter was the first battle. There was no casualties and 4 more states succeeded. The battle of Antieton was fought starting on September 16th. They never left the field and 10,000 people died. In the battle of Fredricksburg 13,000 died and Hooker cut of the communication of Lee.

During Gettysburg Lee ordered an attack on the Union. Chuckamuga, wounded soldiers were given Whiskey and a bullet to bite to dull the pain. Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation which people always said was when he freed the slaves, which was not true. The Emancipation Proclamation was written January 1, 1865. It freed slaves in rebellious states (states that did not go by the Federal government). It exempted border states and gave moral purpose to the cause of the north.

Vicksburg was total war meaning i did not exempt women or children from being involved. The capture of Mississippi by the Union forces the last major trade route in the south to be cut off. The goals for the Constitution was to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility among other things.

In class we learn things that also really do not go along with history necessarily such as Mrs G's jokes and things about her daughter. Everyday there is a new joke or there is an impersonation that she wants to try and she uses us has her joke lab rats. So to sum up the 5 paragraphs, we learned about a lot of really old stuff.
