We are still on the subject of reconstruction and the different plans that were out there. Like how President Johnson vetoed the Civil Rights Act of 1866 which Congress over rode to ensure equal rights to freed slaves also. Which also brought on the 14th Ammendment. For some sad reason some people could still not accept black people so some of the Confederate States did not want to ratify that ammendment to they had to be divided up into military districts which were ruled by Northern generals. Finally African-Americans were allowed to vote and new state constitutions were needed. With new state constitutions came the ratification of the 13th and 14th ammendments.
Compared to the United States reconstruction, South Africa's reconstruction was more structured and organized. They had reconciliation counsels and the development program which I think was important. Sometimes when things happens it helps to be able to ease the pain by putting a face to the situation which in a way gives some type of closure. That is exactly what the development program did. If you was a family member of a victim it might of helped to be able to tell the person who hurt you how you feel and it may bring more to their conscience to see your pain.
In South Africa, the types of programs and things they offered seemed like what was needed necessary to get the country back in order and on the right track. They wanted to redistribute wealth and land. They had entrepreneurship programs, medical care. Even water and electricity.
Also this week was the much anticipated 2nd of 3rd Presidental Debates. In my opinion there was a whole lot of blaming going on. It mostly seemed as McCain placing alot of blame on Obama which ended up correcting him countless times. Besides that debate some people still can not get over the VP Debate, Tonight on MSNBC there was a lady from New York (cant remember if she was part of the House or Senate) she felt like Palin's "6-pack Joe" and the "Hockey Moms" only represents a small part of the population. In a way i feel slightly bad for Palin because she appears slightly "clueless" sometimes.
With a little less than a month left until elections, the "mud slinging" that was obvious Tuesday night will probably get worse. Regardless of who comes in office they need to bring the troops home because it does do alot of damage to families. Over all I enjoyed this week in HUSH.
